Place a Color DOTZ palette over your work-in-progress to “try out” a layer of transparent color before final application of your medium. For graphite artists, Color DOTZ includes a palette of neutral grey shades just for you!
To customize your DOTZ: Match as closely as you can a pencil lead or tube paint with the darkest value of one of the rows of Color DOTZ (top of the rows). Write in permanent ink the name/number of that pencil/paint by the dot (i.e., Cadmium Red 100%). Next, using heavy white paper, scribble patches of that same color in transparency ranges of full strength fading down to 10 percent. (Allow to dry if using paint.) Lay the DOTZ palette over your scribble patches, and match up as closely as you can the DOTZ in the same row. Write the pencil name/number and the value percentage (i.e., Cadmium Red 10%) next to as many DOTZ as you can reasonably match.
Because some pencils and paints come in varying shades, one row of DOTZ may ‘match’ more than one paint or pencil.
